How To Improve Maintenance – Maintenance Assessment

The first step in the process involves determining the maintenance areas that need improvement.  We have a detailed assessment process that is intergraded with a plant tour and meetings to determine the maintenance condition and needs.  Once this assessment has been completed we will summarize and prioritize a plan in a final report.  From here we will assist the plant to implement the changes, with regular visits to the plant; or we can help on selected opportunities.  The plant can also pursue the improvements without assistance by obtaining further training.

This maintenance assessment and report will identify the status of maintenance systems and supply recommendations for improvement.  We will compare current maintenance practices at the plant to existing World Class Maintenance and the wood industry’s current best practices.  Our assessment will involve a plant tour and meetings with maintenance and operations personnel to determine the current situation and identify opportunities available.  The interview process itself will enlighten maintenance and management to World Class and Forest Industries Best Practices Maintenance opportunities.  We recommend the following schedule:

First Day:

Morning:     Introductions and plant tour with the Maintenance Superintendent

Afternoon:  Maintenance interview with management (3 hours) – World Class Maintenance

Second Day:

Morning:     More detailed plant maintenance systems review (3 hours) – Forest Industries Best Practices.  Additional plant equipment or maintenance systems review.

Afternoon: Preliminary findings review meeting

Afternoon: Leave site

Prior to leaving the plant, we will summarize our findings.  Our final report will describe the maintenance program's condition, and provide a prioritized list of recommendations for improvements.  We return to the site to provide the report and a PowerPoint presentation for a path forward plan to World Class Maintenance.
